Medicare Supplemental Insurance or Medigap Coverage is additional Health insurance that helps pay when Original Medicare doesn’t cover the full cost of services. The majority of seniors have some type of this coverage however depending on your region, health and fitness level, and many other factors your premiums can be higher and lower than the average. It is important to get multiple rates from companies so that you are aware of you are overpaying for your health needs. Medigap insurance provides coverage for beneficiaries in the Original Medicare program. Medigap insurance is necessary because Medicare often covers less than the total cost of the beneficiary’s health care. Both Medicare Parts A and B have gaps in coverage, some of which are covered by the various Medigap insurance plans. It is advisable to obtain Medigap insurance to cover these costs if you can afford it and if you are on Original Medicare.
There are ten standard Medigap policies that are labeled A through N. Policy A contains the basic or “core” benefit plan. The other nine policies contain one or more additional benefits.
None of the Medigap plans now offered for sale in Connecticut have drug coverage.
